Community Foundation for Delta County Helps Delta County Veterans

The Community Foundation for Delta County extends our sincere gratitude to all Veterans for your service.

Mrs. Cheryl Andzejewski, Executive Director, Mr. Charlie Becker and Mr. Will Carnes, Sr., Board Members of the Community Foundation for Delta County announced the community foundation’s collaboration with local organizations to help supply Delta County Veterans with Fourth of July Food Baskets.

Mrs. Andzejewski stated, “The Community Foundation for Delta County feels strongly about helping our veterans who have given so much for the freedom we all enjoy and take for granted. We have worked with the Veterans Affair Office in Escanaba for several years to help ease the stress of Delta County Veterans during the Easter and Thanksgiving/Christmas holidays by providing food baskets”.

“As we continued to talk with the Delta County Veterans Affair Office we found out that many Delta County Veterans struggle throughout the year to provide food for themselves and their families”, stated Mr. Becker.

“The Community Foundation and its Board of Trustees have started a Delta County Veterans Fund, held at the community foundation”, stated Mr. Carne, Sr. He continued, “We are asking people and organizations for a monetary donation to help in our efforts to ease the stress of needy Delta County Veterans and their families. The community foundation would like to continue to offer needy Veterans Food Baskets during Easter, Fourth of July and Thanksgiving/Christmas holidays.”

“Our collaboration with the Delta County Veterans Affair Office and local organizations in Escanaba works beautifully”, stated Mrs. Andzejewski. She continued, “The Veterans Affair Office provides us with the number of needy Veterans, we then work with Feeding America and local organizations. Our local organizations assemble the food baskets we order and we pick them up and distribute them to the veterans.”

“We would like to thank Meijer for donating boxes of hamburger patties; Bink’s Coca Cola for donating all of the 2 liter bottles of each Coke and Lemonade; Walmart for donating all of the cookies; Thrivent - Action Team Members; Maureen Nelson and Connie Mayville for donating Thrivent Action Team cards that went toward the expense of the Veterans Fourth of July Food Baskets; our anonymous donor and North Woods Place Senior Living for sponsoring three (3) food baskets each,” stated Mr. Carne, Sr. He continued, “We’d also like to thank the Seventh Day Adventist Food Pantry for storing the items we received from Feeding America, Elmer’s County Market for donating boxes and First Bank for donating thermal cooler bags.”

Mr. Ken Milam, Veteran Outreach Program Specialist, expressed his gratitude, on behalf of Delta County Veterans, to the Community Foundation for Delta County purchasing the items and the organizations for helping our Veterans.
